URUS is Lamborghini’s first foray into the Super SUV category. With such a DNA behind it, it could not fail to be flamboyant. And it does not disappoint: this vehicle is the fastest ever SUV.
As per tradition for all the younger siblings of the classic Lamborghini, the name URUS comes from a breed of bull.
This time an ancient and wild breed has been chosen, for its extremely aggressive and untamed character, much more than other models. Here we have a more disruptive child than usual, a model that does not appear to be comfortable in its role as a SUV.
Its sculpted architecture, typical of Lamborghini design, is also inspired by the past. The iconic Y shape is evident in the exterior lines and front lights. Inside, the slim profile of the “driver-oriented” dashboard, door handles and a host of other tiny details confirm the links with the past.
The “Gandini Line” marked the history of the make, and continues to play its part in today’s success.
This new vehicle has an “extreme” line, but has again respected the make’s principle regarding proportions (two-thirds body, one-third window).
Its characteristics are quite frankly overwhelming. It is the fastest and most powerful SUV ever, with several driving
modes for all tastes, allowing the management of traction, balance and height adjustment depending on the terrain:
Sport, Track, Snow, Land and Sand. The latter is much appreciated in the Middle East.
Its performance is eye-popping, with four-wheel drive and all-wheel steering with 23” tyres and a complex differential system, including front and torsen differential, distributing 40% torque to the front axle and 60% to the rear.
Torque vectoring and the Anima (Adaptive Network Intelligent Management) system make it possible to actively switch torque to the other wheel, thus rendering the trajectory more precise and stable on bends, pinning the vehicle to the road at high speeds.
The 4.0 litre, V8 twin-turbo 8-gear engine (the first time a turbo engine has been used in a Lamborghini) generates 650bhp and 850 Nm of torque, ensuring top performance (an enhanced version of the Audi RS6). Under optimal conditions it goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, and can reach a top speed of 305 km/h (190 mph/h).
It can brake from 100km/h to 0km/h in just 34 metres thanks to its carbon-ceramic brake discs, and adapts smartly to bends, thanks to its adaptive air suspension and active anti-roll bars. Its 100 ECUs manage all the electronics, alongside ANIMA (a software managing all areas of performance).
Its height is close to that of a coupé, its low lines conferring on it a multifaceted personality. It stands just 1.64 cm from the
ground, much lower than its direct rivals Q7 and Cayenne. This characteristic allows it to adapt to different surfaces, thanks in part to the steel flatbed and upper part made from aluminium, making it easier to handle and more lightweight.
It has ample space and comfort (not to mention luxury) to accommodate four passengers, but it is in the driver’s seat that everyone will want to be. Comfort is assured, the top version having electric seats that can be heated or cooled, and can even offer a massage, with 18 possible positions that guarantee perfect comfort at the highest speeds.
The URUS also represents a marked acceleration in change going on inside Lamborghini. The introduction of this model was not only a response to market demand, it also met the challenge of making change possible, hence the hashtag:
